FILM SYNOPSIS

When Anna struggles with her early transition as a young trans woman, she meets Chloe and finds in her a sense of community and support.

After many memorable hikes together, Anna is devastated to learn that Chloe is moving away. As they share one final hike among the redwoods, Anna struggles to say goodbye to the friend who gave her the courage to live.

Set against a backdrop of rising anti-trans legislation, Memories of Redwoods is a quiet, yet emotionally intimate story of trans friendship, chosen family, and hope for the future.

Eliza Zhang

Writer, Director, Producer, Composer

Eliza is a Chinese American, trans filmmaker and composer based in San Francisco, CA. Memories of Redwoods marks her directorial debut and combines emotional storytelling and immersive technology.

At Studio Penrose, Eliza previously scored the short film Our Precious Autumn, which premiered at Raindance Immersive, part of the Raindance Film Festival. Eliza is also the Research Team Leader at the Alliance for Women Film Composers.
